What else should you know?
Can I buy alcohol between 2 pm and 5 pm?
Yes, on a normal day. Since 29 May 2026, you can buy alcohol at ordinary licensed shops from 11 am to midnight without an afternoon break. Buddhist dry days and election bans can still stop sales.
Why is the beer fridge covered at 7-Eleven?
You may be outside selling hours, on a Buddhist dry day, or in an election area with a temporary ban. Even if the shop is open 24 hours, alcohol sales have separate hours. Check the answer above, then ask the cashier if a local restriction applies.
Are the hours different in Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya?
Ordinary shops follow the same national hours. A local election can affect just one city or district. Some hotels and licensed entertainment venues qualify for exceptions. Other shops and bars in tourist destinations still follow the ordinary rules.
Can I buy alcohol on a Buddhist holiday?
No at ordinary shops. Certain hotels, international airport passenger areas and licensed or specially designated venues may be exempt. Use ‘Check your situation’ to see what you need to confirm at your venue.
Does YES mean I can drink anywhere?
No. The answer is about buying alcohol. Drinking is restricted in places such as temples, petrol stations, public parks and public transport areas. You must be at least 20 to buy, and sellers must refuse intoxicated customers.
